MANILA, Philippines — To ease the financial burden on families amid the energy crisis, the Marikina government will shoulder all graduation expenses of around 8,000 public school students in the city.
Mayor Maan Teodoro said the beneficiaries include graduating Grade 6 and Senior High School students, as households continue to cope with rising fuel costs and prices of essential goods.
“Being a mother, I know how special this day is, not just for the children but for the whole family,” Teodoro said. “We want to ensure that every student’s achievement does not become an added expense for parents.”
The local government will provide free togas, graduation photos, stage setup, lights and sound system, as well as snacks for students and their families.
Teodoro said the initiative aims to allow families to focus on the graduation rites without worrying about costs.
“It may be simple support, but it brings great relief,” she said.
The top graduating student will receive a laptop while the second and third top students will get computer tablets from city hall.
