MANILA, Philippines — It is one thing to have authentic sinigang na baboy from the Philippines. It is another to possibly have it prepared by a celebrity chef.
Filipino-American host and content creator Bretman Rock posted on Instagram photos and videos from a recent trip to Metro Manila, quipping in his caption that he "came to the motherland for a quick sec" just to have the pork dish.
In between photos taken on the street, Bretman shared videos of himself ordering and eating sinigang na baboy.
One clip showed a clearly happy Bretman dancing to Justin Bieber's "One Time" while holding up his soup and rice.
"That was... I'm not even gonna act for the camera like... this is the best thing I've ever put in my mouth," Bretman said. "There's just really nothing like Filipino comfort food. Like, I'm emotional."
Other images Bretman posted showed him doing Pilates on a trapeze table, drinking inside a hypobaric chamber, trying street food like fishball and kwek-kwek, having matcha drinks and showing the view from his hotel in Bonifacio Global City.
Many welcomed Bretman’s brief trip in the comments section, including fashion designer Rajo Laurel, celebrity photographer BJ Pascual, former beauty queen Christi McGarry and singer-actress Geneva Cruz.
The most surprising comment, however, came from actor-chef Marvin Agustin, who offered to cook his sinigang for Bretman.
"Can I make you try my sinigang? Baka you will like it," Marvin commented with a bowl emoji.
Many replied to the comment urging Bretman to try the celebrity chef's sinigang, including actress Kakki Teodoro.
