MANILA, Philippines — Maynilad Water Services Inc. is set to push through with its investment into a water supply and wastewater project in New Clark City.
In a stock exchange filing yesterday, Maynilad said its board of directors has approved a public?private partnership with the Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-Water) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
The proposed project will develop the water infrastructure of New Clark City in Tarlac, with a proposed 25?year term. The company did not provide additional details.
“The company will make the appropriate disclosures if and when original proponent status is granted and upon the occurrence of any other material development,” the Pangilinan-led water service provider said.
Last February, K-Water and Maynilad submitted a P15-billion unsolicited proposal to the BCDA to provide water and wastewater services to the development hub.
Maynilad is expected to take a 30 percent stake in the joint venture, K-Water will hold 40 percent and BCDA the remaining 30 percent.
The agency had also signed a memorandum of understanding with K-Water to develop the comprehensive water plans for New Clark City and Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
BCDA president and CEO Joshua Bingcang said earlier New Clark City would require 150 million liters of water per day once the development of the area is completed. Current water demand is estimated at 20 million to 30 million liters per day.
Maynilad presently provides water and wastewater services to the areas under an interim contract, which is set to expire this year.
If completed, the investment could pave the way for Maynilad to expand its water services beyond Metro Manila’s West Zone.
The company is the primary water and wastewater service provider for the West Zone, covering 11 cities in Metro Manila along with other parts of Cavite.
