MANILA, Philippines — Mayon Volcano in Albay remains under Alert Level 3 as the effusive eruption persists on its 27th consecutive day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported yesterday.

Phivolcs said the effusive eruption continues to generate incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents and rockfalls.

Mayon has been under Alert Level 3 since Jan. 6. Phivolcs has prohibited entry into Mayon’s six-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone. It also warned pilots against flying close to the volcano.

Phivolcs warned the public of rockfalls, landslides, ballistic fragments, lava flows and fountaining, pyroclastic density currents and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall.

As of yesterday, five volcanic earthquakes, 317 rockfall events and 30 pyroclastic density currents were noted in Mayon.
