MANILA, Philippines — Starting Feb. 7, domestic workers or kasambahays in Metro Manila will receive an increase of P800 in their monthly salary.
Approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region (RTWPB-NCR), Wage Order No. 06 raises the monthly minimum wage for household workers from P7,000 to P7,800.
The pay adjustment is expected to benefit more than 223,000 domestic workers in Metro Manila, most of whom are stay-in employees supporting households while providing for their own families.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission affirmed the wage order on Jan. 21. It will take effect on Feb. 7 or 15 days after its publication.
Prior to the issuance, the RTWPB conducted focus group discussions and rolled out surveys with domestic workers across the NCR, in coordination with local government units, Public Employment Service Offices and various associations.
The Department of Labor and Employment said the wage increase considered the needs of domestic workers and their families, employers’ capacity to pay as well as the existing socioeconomic conditions in Metro Manila.
The RTWPB said it would step up information campaigns to ensure that employers comply with the new wage rate.
The last pay hike for domestic workers in Metro Manila took effect in January 2025.
