MANILA, Philippines – Floods and landslides remain possible in Metro Manila and at least six provinces in Luzon still experiencing moderate to heavy rain due to the southwest monsoon or habagat on Monday, July 21.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) provided an updated rainfall outlook for the southwest monsoon at 5 am on Monday, covering the next three days:
Monday, July 21
- Moderate to heavy rain (50-100 millimeters): Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro
Tuesday, July 22

On Monday, the rest of the Ilocos Region, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Oriental Mindoro will have occasional rain, while remaining areas in Luzon, the entire Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao can expect scattered rain and thunderstorms, still because of the southwest monsoon.
The rest of Mindanao will also be affected by the southwest monsoon on Monday but will only have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, a new low pressure area (LPA) formed along the eastern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday evening, July 20.
As of 3 am on Monday, the LPA was located 1,140 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, inside PAR.
It is not affecting any part of the country, and currently has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Daniel James Villamil said in an early Monday morning briefing that the LPA may move generally northwest and north in the coming days, which means it would stay far from Philippine landmass.
The weather bureau earlier estimated two or three tropical cyclones could develop within or enter PAR in July. There have been two, so far, during the month: Typhoon Bising (Danas) and Severe Tropical Storm Crising (Wipha). – Rappler.com
