MANILA, Philippines – Pageant season is in full swing, as one of our beauty queens prepares to represent the Philippines on the world stage!

Miss World Philippines 2024 Krishnah Gravidez is vying for the Miss World crown this Saturday, May 31, for the 72nd edition of the global pageant in India. Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic will crown her successor.

But before the highly anticipated coronation night, Miss World contestants first participate in a series of preliminary segments, also known as “fast-track” events. These include Beauty With a Purpose, Talent, Top Model, and Head-to-Head Challenge, and also National Costume, Multimedia Challenge, Sports Challenge, and a social media voting challenge.

The young stunner from Baguio has pulled out all the stops for each segment, showcasing stunning gowns on social media. Here’s a recap of some of her best looks yet!

Fit for a queen: ‘Princess Gandingan’

For the 72nd Miss World Opening Ceremony, Krishnah paid tribute to the Princess Gandingan of the Maranao epic Darangen, in a remarkable Simeon Cayetano creation. The cultural design was then brought to life by movement, as Krishnah performed the traditional Singkil dance.

In this regal look, bold shades of magenta and hot pink, and the gold of the sequins, beadwork, and metallic embroidery, are married in a chevron pattern that creates the illusion of motion.

The detail and intricacy of the ensemble mirrors the richness of Moro culture, with its feathered fans, inaul sash, and a headpiece inspired by the torogan — the pre-colonial house of the Maranao that signified royalty.

Elegance and eloquence for the Head-to-Head Challenge

The Head-to-Head Challenge is a competition where contenders demonstrate their skills at extemporaneous speaking in a chance to advance. Krishnah showcased eloquence, but also elegance, in a white Mark Bumgarner terno.

The look featured a romantic corset top, with voluminous, off-the-shoulder puff sleeves. Its bodice, structured to emphasize the waist, was worn over chic, flowy wide-leg trousers. The overall ensemble combines classic and modern elements, creating a look of refinement.

Shining, shimmering, splendid: ‘Palawan Peacock-Pheasant’

Top Model is Miss World’s modeling and catwalk fast-track competition. Since it’s a fashion show, Krishnah brought drama and flair to the runway in a look titled “Palawan Peacock-Pheasant” — after the ground-dwelling bird native to Palawan — a dazzling tribute to our islands’ rich biodiversity.

Designed by Rian Fernandez, the jumpsuit took inspiration from the regal presence of the Palawan peacock-pheasant, using iridescent shades of blue and purple, ruffled textures, and Swarovski crystals to capture the eye-catching plumage of the majestic bird.

A Disney princess and a queen

For the Talent competition, Krishnah Gravidez showcased her gift for singing in a rendition of “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney’s Moana. She did so in a custom Fatima Beltran Couture gown that reflected the water motifs of the song.

The gown was rendered in a soft pastel blue and featured layers of tulle, mimicking the texture of waves, a skirt that flares out at the bottom, creating a mermaid shape, and a delicately bejeweled neckline and straps, reminiscent of seashells. To add to the volume and texture, intricate floral appliqués made from the same soft fabric were scattered throughout, for just a hint of drama.

Ready for the press

For her close-up interview, Krishnah was the picture of elevated simplicity and authenticity in a custom AJ Javier soft nude terno, with floral appliqués decorating the skirt and sleeves.

This modern take on the traditional Filipiniana dress combined sheer and solid fabric, with a sheer overlay emphasized at the neckline and skirt over a form-fitting underlayer. The flowery embellishments added to the ensemble’s quiet elegance, perfect for the modern Filipina.

Her Majesty the Queen

Filipina beauty queens are expected to champion an advocacy close to their hearts. Gravidez is known for her “Beauty with a Purpose” project, which focuses on spreading kindness and helping others.

This year’s Beauty With a Purpose fast-track event is a gala dinner where Miss World contestants share their philanthropic work and initiatives. For this occasion, Krishnah stunned in another Rian Fernandez ensemble.

The look was traditionally regal, with its long, flowing silhouette, rendered in white while the shoulders and back were adorned with intricate, shimmering beadwork in gold and bronze that extended down the bodice. Different textures were combined to create a layered effect down towards the skirt, with feather-like embellishments, ending at a golden hemline.

Krishnah, who hails from Baguio, was crowned Miss World Philippines 2024 last July, succeeding Miss World Philippines 2022 Gwendolyne Fourniol. Krishnah previously held the Miss Charm Philippines 2023 title, which she gave up in June 2024 after placing in the Top 5 of Miss Universe Philippines 2023. – Steph Arnaldo and Bea Gatmaytan/Rappler.com
