MANILA, Philippines — No arrest warrants have been issued yet against businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang and several other people tagged in the disappearance of cockfight enthusiasts or sabungeros, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said yesterday.
Earlier, DOJ prosecutors approved the filing of charges against Ang and other respondents before local courts.
DOJ spokesman Polo Martinez said the justice department has yet to receive copies of any arrest warrant issued by the courts.
“As of 10 a.m. today, we have not been furnished yet with copies of the warrants,” Martinez said yesterday.
He said the DOJ would be notified once the warrants are released, served and the accused taken into custody.
Arraignment proceedings will be scheduled immediately after the arrest.
The DOJ said its panel of prosecutors found substantial evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction to indict Ang with 10 counts of kidnapping with homicide and 16 counts of kidnapping with serious illegal detention.
Twenty-one other respondents are facing 10 counts each of kidnapping with homicide. Ten others including policemen were charged with 16 counts each of kidnapping with serious illegal detention.
