MANILA, Philippines — Gabriel Go, head of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s Special Operations Group-Strike Force, is in hot water after publicly scolding a teacher who drove a motorcycle without a helmet.
Video footage posted on his Facebook account showed Go berating a teacher and insisting on recording the encounter.
In a letter to MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition agreed that the teacher should be penalized for violating traffic laws, but said Go should not have used his authority to demean a person.
Go, who was in civilian clothes unlike the teacher who was in uniform, even questioned the traffic violator on why he was carrying a handheld radio.
Go stressed that “whatever your profession, you are never entitled to exemption.”
