MANILA, Philippines — The Moffats, one of the biggest boy bands of the 90s, bring their music back to the Philippines but, this time, through their new identity, Music Travel Love.
Culled from the name of their music channel, the Moffats has —after over three decades — came of age with some of them having kids of their own.
After their successful '90s stint, the group renamed themselves as The Endless Summer for a while. That name, however, got into a copyright issue with a filmmaker who made a movie with that same title in 1965.
The director said that if they continued to use it, they needed to give a 20% royalty from all their revenues. Thus, they decided to drop that and used the name of their music channel instead.
Three of the four Moffats brothers – Bob, Clint, and Dave – flew to Manila and met the media in a presser at the Novotel Tent in Quezon City.
"Singing as lead vocal during our Moffats days gave me confidence to perform with my brothers. Success looks different depending on where you are on your journey," said Dave, also recalling performing NSYNC's "This I Promise You" with Filipino-American singer Francis Greg during a past Philippine visit.
Through a request, the brothers performed a snippet from their hit song "If Life is so Short," which they say is the song for the Gen Z crowd as it easily transcends to all generations.

"Certain songs stand the test of time. We pick songs we love and are not locked in a certain time or era," the brothers continued. "The big thing about music is to have an open door or portal to do better. The process is the most important point."
Another collaboration the siblings did was "Sleeping Child" with Michael Learns to Rock in the latter's home country Denmark which they said "might be an easy listen" but actually took a while to perfect.
"Numbers get in the way of what you're creating and what you’re doing. You lose the magic," said Bob. "Songs now are hinged on repetition and production, unlike before where it's all about the song. But connection is still the same, despite the presence of social media."
He expressed his hopes all of them, including missing brother Scott, will do songs together again amid handling their own lives.
They plan to collaborate with a Filipino artist soon. The artist — who they want to remain unnamed as of yet — lives near Bohol and has a great following on social media.
"Pinoys love songs differently than other parts of the world. That's why they're good singers. We will have special guests for the show. But it is the fans that make each show very unique," Clint ended, teasing that Moffats songs will be in their repertoire.
The Music Travel Love Philippine tour will be in Cagayan de Oro on June 26, in Cebu City on June 27, and in Manila at the New Frontier Theater on June 28.
