COTABATO CITY, Philippines — No fewer than 40 houses, mostly made only of semi-permanent materials, in a seaside area in Barangay Sangali in Zamboanga City were razed by fire before dawn Friday, August 14.
Radio reports on Friday morning stated that officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection 9 and local executives are cooperating in establishing the cause of the fire that hit Cambodia Purok 1 in Barangay Sangali in Zamboanga City and left about 60 families homeless.
The office of Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso and the Department of Social Welfare 9 had immediately provided the affected families with food and other supplies they would need while in makeshift evacuation facilities.
Radio reports said most of the villagers affected by the conflagration belong to Zamboanga City’s Tausug and Sama communities and some are Yakans from the nearby Basilan island province in the Bangsamoro region.
