MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) is investigating the rallyist who sprayed paint on the face of a police officer in civilian attire on Friday.

MPD chief Brig. Gen. Arnold Santiago said investigators have identified the supect and will be filing charges of physical injuries or direct assault, depending on the result of the medico-legal.

A video showed the protester spraying paint on the policeman who accosted him for vandalizing the center island of T.M. Kalaw Avenue in Manila.

The protester tried to evade arrest by running and removing his shirt to prevent identification.

Despite the incident, MPD district director for operations Col. Adrin Gran declared that Friday’s rally was generally peaceful.
