MANILA, Philippines — Bea Millan-Windorski has worn the Miss Universe Philippines crown for less than a week, but she is already drawing support for Miss Universe 2026.

The beauty queen, who represented La Union, was crowned last May 2, succeeding Ahtisa Manalo and earning the right to represent the Philippines on pageantry's biggest stage.

While Bea entered the competition as a frontrunner and fan favorite, the selection was anything but easy during the Final 7, where she ultimately emerged on top.

GMG Productions chief executive officer Carlos Candal said as much during a conversation with select media representatives, including Philstar.com, following a media call for the company's latest production, "Jesus Christ Superstar."

Candal was part of the 10-member jury at Miss Universe Philippines 2026, an experience he said he enjoyed.

On Bea's chances

"It was fantastic, what can I say? A very hard choice, certainly went down to the last few contestants but [they were] fantastic, all lovely," Candal said.

He also praised key figures behind the Miss Universe Philippines franchise, namely president Jonas Gaffud, executive vice president Voltaire Tayag, and national director Ariella Arida, the 2013 titleholder.

Candal added that he hopes to take part again in a future edition of the pageant.

The executive also expressed confidence in Bea's chances internationally, reiterating that she was a standout contestant during coronation night.

"We all agree that Bea has a fantastic chance at winning the international contest and that's what we want, hope, and aspire to," Candal said. "Let's hope that happens later on in the year."

Miss Universe 2026, which will mark the pageant's diamond edition, will take place in Puerto Rico.
