KAYLA Jane Usison, who represents Bago City, Negros Occidental, and the Filipino community of San Francisco at the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) national pageant, showcases her pride and connection to these two vibrant communities.
In an exclusive interview with The Manila Times, Usison highlighted the significance of women's health, championing every woman's right to focus on their overall well-being — physically, mentally, and emotionally — without fear or judgment.
"Women's well-being is often put on the back burner due to societal expectations, stigma, or lack of access to resources," Usison said.
"My advocacy is about empowering women to take charge of their own well-being, reminding them that self-care is not selfish, but necessary," she added.
She aims to spark meaningful discussions around health care access, wellness, and self-love, empowering women to make informed decisions about their bodies and fostering a supportive environment for their journey to holistic well-being.

With a background in Business Administration and Human Resources from California State University, East Bay, Usison works as an HR generalist in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now represents her roots and values as a candidate in the MUPh.
Competing in Miss Filipina International 2022, where she placed second runner-up, was a transformative experience for her. She said it developed her resilience, self-confidence and a deeper understanding of the impact she can make through her platform.
"If we truly embrace love above all, that love should start with how we take care of ourselves and uplift other women to do the same," Usison said.
"This journey is bigger than just me — it's about purpose, growth, and inspiring others to chase their own dreams with courage and faith," she added.
Chelsea Manalo will crown her successor as the new Miss Universe Philippines on May 2, 2025, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, marking the end of her reign as national titleholder.
