MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit 3 and Light Rail Transit 2 will offer free rides on MRT-3 and LRT-2 to all National ID holders every Wednesday this month.

In separate advisories, the MRT-3 and LRT-2 said the initiative would be available on Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Commuters get to ride for free from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The train lines said the free rides are implemented to commemorate the signing of Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act on Aug. 6, 2018.

MRT-3 said it would also offer free rides on Sept. 16, in celebration of Global Identity Day.

Commuters may avail of the free rides by presenting their National ID – either the physical card, digital version or ePhilID in paper format – at the stations.

The Philippine Statistics Authority has set up registration sites for the National ID at select MRT-3 train line stations.

Registrants can process their National ID until Aug. 31 at Araneta-Cubao station from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday to Saturday and at Taft station from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
