ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Close to P100 million worth of contraband and illegally transported goods were seized in three maritime security operations last week, the Naval Command Western Mindanao confirmed yesterday.

NCWM commander Rear Adm. Constancio Arturo Reyes Jr. said naval forces confiscated undocumented diesel fuel valued at P72.17 million as well as smuggled cigarettes and motor vessel valued at P27.23 million.

Also seized were illegally transported lawaan lumber worth P252,000.

Reyes said the operations were conducted from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3 in Sulu and Basilan, after the NCWM received intelligence information.

“These operations reflect NCWM’s sustained commitment to securing the maritime domain of Western Mindanao and preventing its use for smuggling and other illegal activities,” Reyes said.

He added that the NCWM would continue working closely with partner agencies in protecting the seas and national interests.
