MANILA, Philippines — Quiapo Church has scheduled the blessing of the replicas and estandartes (banners) of the Black Nazarene today, just six days before the traditional traslacion on Jan. 9.
Alex Irasga, Quiapo Church technical adviser, said the replicas and estandartes would be blessed at 1 p.m. today so devotees no longer have to bring these during the traslacion, or the Nazarene procession from the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park back to the church.
He reminded devotees that there would be no procession of the banners and images today.
Three entry routes have been identified for the blessing: Rizal Avenue-Carriedo-Plaza Miranda-Quezon Boulevard, Plaza Lacson-Carlos Palanca-Villalobos-Plaza Miranda-Quezon Boulevard, and Carlos Palanca-Quinta Market-Quezon Boulevard.
All the devotees with their replicas and banners will exit at Paterno Street and Gonzalo Puyat going to C.M. Recto Avenue.
Some roads in Manila will be closed to motorists from Jan. 8 to 9, according to the Manila Police District.
The MPD said portions of Bonifacio Drive, Katigbak Drive, South Drive, Independence Road, P. Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, Ma. Orosa Street, Taft Avenue and Romualdez Street will be closed to traffic starting at 9 p.m. on Jan. 8, the eve of the traslacion.
Also inaccessible to motorists are Ayala Boulevard, Carlos Palanca Street, P. Casal Street, Legarda Street, Quezon Boulevard, Lerma Street, MacArthur Bridge and Jones Bridge.
The MPD said drivers going south of Manila could use Capulong and Yuseco Streets as well as Lacson Avenue if coming from Mel Lopez Boulevard; Fugoso Street, Rizal Avenue, Nicanor Reyes Street, Recto, Legarda, San Fernando, Madrid, Muelle dela Industria, Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, A. Soriano Avenue, Juan Luna Street and Anda Circle.
Those driving northbound can take United Nations Avenue, P. Guanzon Street and Mabini Bridge.
Trucks going to Port Area can use Quirino Avenue and Mabini Bridge.
“Closure of some streets will be in effect as the procession approaches,” the MPD advised motorists.
