MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has warned the public against online scams during the holiday season.
The NBI said scammers often take advantage of the holidays by setting up fake online stores, sending phishing messages and circulating fraudulent payment links to lure unsuspecting victims.
The bureau advised consumers to verify the identity of online sellers, avoid clicking suspicious links and never share personal information, banking details or one-time password codes.
“If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is a scam,” the NBI said.
The NBI urged anyone who falls victim to online scammers to immediately report to the bureau and preserve all possible evidence, including screenshots, messages, receipts and transaction records, to aid in the probe.
