MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation is continuing its search for businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang, with NBI agents verifying information from various locations, including the Visayas.
NBI National Capital Region chief Joel Tovera said investigators have already validated several pieces of information as part of the tracking effort.
“As part of the team tracking Atong Ang, we have already verified a lot of information in the Visayas,” Tovera said, adding that the NBI receives fresh information almost daily, including hotline tips.
Tovera said each lead is being processed to facilitate an arrest.
“We are giving it the proper action so we can arrest Mr. AA,” he added.
According to Tovera, the NBI is also considering reports that Ang has been abroad since December.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla told The STAR’s “Truth on the Line” last Thursday that Ang reportedly has gambling operations in Cambodia, in an area that has gained notoriety as a no-man’s land where human trafficking, illegal drug deals and cyber scam operations proliferate.
The Philippines is coordinating with Cambodia on this, Remulla said.
