MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has started a separate probe to trace the activities of the two gunmen who reportedly traveled to the Philippines prior to the Bondi Beach terror attack in Australia.
NBI spokesman Palmer Mallari said the agency is coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to retrace the movements of father-and-son suspects Sajid and Naveed Akram.
“As of now, only Davao has been mentioned. So that is where we started the backtracking,” Mallari said.
He underscored the importance of retracing the suspects’ movements in the Philippines for nearly a month before they traveled to Sydney.
The immigration bureau had confirmed that the Akrams arrived in the Philippines on Nov. 1 and left Davao on Nov. 28.
