MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, March 30 led the opening of CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 3B, which he said will cut travel time between Taguig and Parañaque from up an hour and a half hours down to about 15 minutes.
The 2-kilometer road segment is expected to accommodate around 36,000 vehicles daily.
"Kaya malaking bagay ito kasi made-decongest, mababawasan ang traffic doon sa mga maliliit na kalsada dahil dito na lang dadaan. At ‘yung biyahe na dati ay isang oras, isang oras at kalahati, magiging 15 minutes na lang," Marcos said.
(It is significant because it will help decongest smaller roads as vehicles will pass through here. A trip that used to take an hour to an hour and a half will now take just 15 minutes.)
Marcos said the reduced travel time could also translate into lower fuel costs for motorists and commuters, as fuel prices remain elevated due to tensions in the Middle East.
He said the project forms part of the administration’s Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport initiative, which consolidates government efforts to address the fuel situation.
Toll relief, expansion plans
The president said the newly opened segment will be toll-free for the entire month of April.
The administration has also implemented toll discounts on several tollways nationwide as part of relief measures amid fuel prie spikes.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said more expressways are expected to open to help reduce travel time and ease transport costs.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway along Andrews Avenue, which aims to improve access to NAIA Terminal 3 from SLEX, Skyway Stage 3 and Lawton Avenue was also recently opened.
