MANILA, Philippines — A newly launched inititative in Intramuros allows guests visiting the walled city the option to rent traditional Filipino clothing while touring the area.

Traje de Intramuros based in Fort Santiago's La Events Cafe is the brainchild of events planner Archie Dema-ala and his cultural group La Manila Dance Ambassadors and Rondalla.

The group has been performing in Intramuros while wearing traditional Filipino attire for the past couple of years and drew inspiration from similar initiatives in Japan and Korea, where tourists can rent Kimonos and Hanboks, respectively, in select cultural attractions and temples.

The Traje de Intramuros initiative has a basic package, merely borrowing an attire, and an all-in package inclusive of makeup and hairstyling.

Clothing options include a Traje de Mestiza for women and a Barong ensemble for men, plus add-ons such as accessories or props.

The starting prices for Filipino men and women are P499 and P799, respectively, while foreign guest rates start at P900 and P1,500.

Either package can last between three and four hours as guests go on a heritage tour around Intramuros in clothes from a past era. Lockers are available for guests to store any belongings while on tour.

Guests are welcome to take photos during the tour but professional photoshoots in loaned traditional attire will require the green light of Intramuros Administration, which supports the initiative.
