MANILA, Philippines — Several parts of the country can expect rainy skies for the start of the New Year, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, January 1.
In its daily weather bulletin, PAGASA said that the Northeast Monsoon is affecting many parts of northern and central Luzon.
MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Quezon can expect cloudy skies and scattered rains due to the shear line. PAGASA warned these areas of possible flash floods and landslides during heavier bouts of rain.
Meanwhile, Mindanao and the rest of Visayas are being affected by the eastern winds. They are expected to have partially cloudy skies with isolated rains. There are chances of more severe thunderstorms, so these areas are also warned of possible flash floods and landslides.
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, can expect partly cloudy skies due to the northeast monsoon. Other than chillier weather, PAGASA said that there is no significant impact.
The warmest temperature forecasted is 29.2 °C, which is predicted to be at 11:00 am. The average lowest temperature was 23.2 °C at 5:00 am.
