MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) wants to complete the development of two big-ticket transmission projects totaling P12.34 billion next year, a top official said.
“There are several backbone projects. We’re hoping that the Tuy-Dasmariñas 500-kilovolt (kV) transmission line project will be completed within the next year,” NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza told reporters yesterday.
With an estimated investment of P8.1 billion, the project is expected to support the Luzon grid and facilitate the entry of big power generation into the transmission system.
It involves the construction of a 49-kilometer double-circuit overhead transmission line that will be initially energized at a 230-kV voltage level.
Along with the overhead line, a new substation in Tuy, Batangas will also be constructed.
Alabanza said the NGCP also targets the completion of the 138-kV Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay transmission project in Visayas next year.
The project, which has an approved cost of roughly P4.24 billion, aims to enhance the reliability of power supply on Panay Island by addressing the overloading issues in the existing substations and transmission lines.
“We have several substation upgrading projects in Visayas (that are) also slated for completion next year,” Alabanza said.
Since 2009, the NGCP has invested over P300 billion to ensure the reliability and stability of the country’s electrical superhighway.
In 2024 alone, the grid operator completed three big-ticket projects: the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection, the Cebu-Negros-Panay 230-kV Interconnection and the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose 500-kV line.
Asked about the power outlook for next year, Alabanza said the NGCP is still finalizing it but assured the public of a brownout-free holiday season.
“For the rest of the year, we won’t see a problem with supply unless there will be an unplanned maintenance shutdown of plants or storms,” she said.
