MANILA, Philippines — The Makati police yesterday dispelled rumors about a crime wave in the country’s financial capital following a robbery incident on Aug. 22.

Reports said Makati’s Legaspi Village went on high alert after a man was allegedly robbed by three people on Perea street.

“This is an isolated case,” city police chief Col. Pedro Alagano Jr. told The STAR. “Makati remains safe.”

Alagano said police have reached out to the complainant, conducted backtracking and identified persons of interest.

“We are positive that we will be able to solve this case,” he said.

Mayor Nancy Binay met with Alagano yesterday to discuss “further interventions” needed.

Representatives from the Makati Central Estate Association Inc. were also present. MACEA is a non-profit group composed of the city’s property owners, manufacturers, banks, corporations, advertising agencies, real estate firms and industrialists.

Alagano called on the public to report crime incidents, saying authorities would immediately respond. –
