Nothing’s CMF sub-brand has successfully carved its own path into the budget smartphone space. Its innate quirkiness has many awaiting the second generation of its CMF Phone 1 (by NOTHING), and it looks like we’ve almost got it in our hands.
Time to go on a quick stroll down memory lane: the original CMF Phone 1 came with MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM. Extension technologies can bring this to a meaty 16GB, borrowing a bit from the expandable 256GB of onboard storage. Optics were handled by a single 50-megapixel shooter and a forgettable 2-megapixel sheet stuffer.
Its design was definitely quite something to remember though, most especially in orange.
And it doesn’t look like that’s going away anytime soon. The upcoming CMF Phone 2 Pro has been continually teased these past few weeks.
It sports the same orange design, with some tweaks and spec bumps. Its beating heart has been announced: a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro, which should over a slight performance upgrade. The announced numbers are up to a 10% increase in CPU performance, 5% in graphical improvement, and a network boost.
The cameras, meanwhile, have been upgraded to a 50-megapixel main sensor, 50-megapixel telephoto lens, and 8-megapixel ultrawide. Yep, that’s the same one currently in the Nothing Phone (3a), although the chipset differences may lead to varying photo quality.
The CMF Phone 1 was an okay performer with photos considering the limited hardware, but the software tweaks definitely brought out the fullest potential of the installed sensor.
The event is coming up on the 28th, so we’re set to learn more then. Stay tuned for more updates.
