MANILA, Philippines — More than 57,000 families have been affected by the inclement weather brought by the combined effects of former Tropical Depression Wilma—now a low-pressure area (LPA)—along with the northeast monsoon and the shear line, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
In its latest report, the NDRRMC recorded 57,594 families, or 132,849 individuals, affected across several regions.
A total of 22,672 individuals are sheltering in 193 evacuation centers. The agency also logged 31 flooded areas in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Region 5, Region 8 and CARAGA.
Three houses were reported partially damaged, while 15 road sections remain affected.
Ports heavily disrupted
No airports have been affected as of reporting time. However, disruptions continue across 135 seaports, resulting in:
- 11,971 passengers stranded
- 3,567 rolling cargoes stranded
- 102 vessels unable to depart
- 24 motorbancas on hold
Assistance provided to affected families has reached P885,290, according to the NDRRMC.
Wilma weakens into LPA. PAGASA said the LPA was last estimated over the coastal waters of Culasi, Antique.
Earlier on the morning of Sunday, December 7, PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over parts of Luzon and Mindanao due to Wilma, before the system weakened into an LPA that afternoon.
