MANILA, Philippines — Despite operating under a significantly reduced budget, more than 73,000 families affected by major disasters received assistance from its disaster relief operations, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) reported yesterday.

In its year-end report, the OVP said it was able to extend aid to 73,054 families, with 9,129 of them receiving donated relief goods.

Vice President Sara Duterte said the OVP’s rapid response efforts included the distribution of 2,514 bags of 25-kilo rice to communities hit by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu and the Mt. Kanlaon eruption.

For 2025, the OVP received a budget of P733 million, which is P1.29 billion lower than its P2.037-billion proposal.

Through its Relief for Indigents and Individuals in Crisis and Emergencies (RIICE) Program, the OVP distributed 56,575 bags of rice and essential food items in various response zones.

The office also deployed a Kalusugan Food Truck that served meals to 1,866 volunteers, rescuers and frontliners.

Highlighting the OVP’s environmental initiatives, Duterte reported that her office had planted one million trees nationwide, achieving the target three years ahead of schedule.

Under its Million Learners Campaign, the OVP distributed 460,272 learner’s bags, including to students from the Obu Manuvu Indigenous People community in Kidapawan City.

Duterte said the office’s digitalization efforts earned a special citation from the Development Academy of the Philippines after it completed the “paper-less challenge,” saving 3.2 million sheets of paper.

The OVP also received an unqualified opinion from the Commission on Audit, which is the highest audit rating.

“This is a clear indication of our transparency and fiscal integrity,” Duterte said.

Reaffirming her office’s commitment to good governance, the Vice President vowed to stand against “the greed of some high-ranking officials in government.”

“We will continue to show you that in our office it is important to have a plan, well-implemented projects, fight corruption and to have the courage and be caring to have a better future for our country,” she said.
