MANILA, Philippines — Illegal firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices worth over P1.4 million have been seized across Metro Manila.
Police director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin inspected yesterday 26,606 firecrackers confiscated by five police districts in the capital.
Of the number, the Southern Police District seized 19,310, followed by the Quezon City Police District (2,594), Eastern Police District (2,252), Northern Police District (1,694) and Manila Police District (250).
Metro Manila police’s civil security unit seized 506 firecrackers.
Seized fireworks will be destroyed on Jan. 7, police said.
In Quezon City, illegal fireworks worth P217,475 were destroyed yesterday.
Eleven people have been arrested so far in Metro Manila for selling illegal firecrackers, Aberin said.
Instead of disposing of the firecrackers themselves, Aberin urged the public to surrender these items to the police, Bureau of Fire Protection or the explosive ordnance disposal unit.
