MANILA, Philippines — Anti-narcotics officers scored a major drug haul in Taguig City following the recovery of at least 27 kilos of shabu and marijuana valued at P176 million from five suspected drug dealers on Saturday.

The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group in Barangay Napindan at around 1 p.m.

“The PNP is serious in dismantling illegal drug networks. And to every Filipino family, we promise to continue working for your safety,” acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

Taken into police custody were Danny Ordonez, 54; Joniel Almeda, 40; Alvin Escovidal, 29; Elmer Rabanes, 25, and John Walter Carlos, 24.

Police officers who posed as drug buyers handed over bundles of marked money to the suspects in exchange for shabu, which resulted in their arrest.

The suspects yielded 25.5 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, 1.77 kilos of marijuana leaves and 140 e-cigarettes containing marijuana oil.

Aside from shabu, a 9mm pistol and drug paraphernalia were seized from the suspects.

The suspects are being held on charges of drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm.

Meanwhile, a man wanted for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, was arrested in Caloocan City on Friday.

The 35-year-old suspect whom police did not identify was nabbed in a sting in Barangay 8.

A Caloocan court recommended bail of P200,000 for the suspect’s temporary liberty.
