MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confiscated more than P237 million worth of counterfeit luxury goods in Binondo earlier this week.
Agents of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division raided several retail outlets inside a shopping mall following intelligence reports about the large-scale distribution of fake merchandise.
Authorities said the operations led to the confiscation of 2,820 items bearing the Louis Vuitton trademark, with an estimated market value of P217,470,489.60.
The NBI conducted another raid that resulted in the seizure of counterfeit products carrying the Longchamp brand.
The haul included 2,316 assorted bags, eight coin purses and two wallets valued at P20.9 million.
The NBI said the production, sale and distribution of counterfeit goods violated Republic Act 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. –
