MANILA, Philippines — Infrastructure damage across the country has surged to P5.95 billion following the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay and Neneng and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
As of 6 a.m. Thursday, August 27, the NDRRMC said agricultural damage was estimated at P1.91 billion.
More than 2,800 houses were also damaged, including around 2,500 that were partially damaged and 340 that were totally destroyed.
The combined weather systems have affected 7.7 million individuals, or 2.2 million families, across 10 regions, including Regions I, II, III, V, VI and IX, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region.
At least 325 evacuation centers remain operational, providing temporary shelter to roughly 28,000 displaced individuals, or 8,200 families.
Death toll, injuries
According to the NDRRMC, 31 deaths have been reported across several areas:
- Benguet (15): 10 in Baguio City, three in Atok and two in La Trinidad, all due to landslides.
- CALABARZON (8): Four in Rizal and four in Batangas.
- Metro Manila (3): Two in Caloocan and one in Quezon City.
- Other regions (5): Fatalities were recorded in La Union, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro and Negros Occidental.
An additional 19 people were injured, while search and rescue operations continue for three missing individuals in Manila, Quezon City and Batangas City.
A total of 104 localities have been placed under a state of calamity to facilitate relief operations and the repair of damaged infrastructure.
