CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Expired food products worth P6.6 million have been seized from a Chinese businessman and a barangay kagawad in separate police operations in Central Luzon.
Police on Wednesday raided a warehouse in Marilao, Bulacan, where imported processed meat, oil, sauces, bamboo shoots, noodles and syrup products valued at P5 million were discovered, according to Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez, Central Luzon police director.
The raiding team arrested a Chinese national believed to be the manager of the warehouse after he failed to show documents for the food items.
Meanwhile, a barangay kagawad was arrested for allegedly selling expired food products in Bamban, Tarlac on Tuesday.
Police said they recovered from the suspect 19,800 packs of assorted expired noodles and other snack items valued at P1.6 million.
The confiscated food items were turned over to authorities for proper disposition.
Charges for violating the Consumer Act of the Philippines and the Food Safety Act will be filed against the suspects, police said.
