Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura and Brig. Gen. Jose Johnson Grayda lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony during the inauguration of the Basing Support System in the municipality of Kalayaan in Palawan on Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — Boosting its presence and capabilities, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) announced yesterday the completed construction and improvement of facilities on Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea.

The structures and improvements include a new hangar and a better runway that will allow easier landing and takeoff for air assets.

PAF said it inaugurated the completed Basing Support System under the Pag-asa Island Project on Thursday in a ceremony presided over by the commanding general, Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura.

“The project marked the completion of key basing support infrastructure and facilities designed to enhance air operations in the area, strengthening the PAF’s capability to sustain operations and support strategic infrastructure in the West Philippine Sea,” he said.

Implemented in close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, MAMSAR Construction Corp. and the local government unit of Palawan, PAF said the project reflects a unified effort in advancing strategic infrastructure in the area.

In his remarks during the inauguration, Cordura underscored that conditions which once limited operational tempo have now been addressed, enabling more reliable and continuous mission support.
