Malacañang assured the public that the government is ready to assist communities affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island early Tuesday morning.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Palace press officer Clair Castro said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), upon the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has coordinated with affected local government units (LGUs) to provide food and non-food assistance to affected residents.
"Right now, services are still being provided in line with the directive of our President," Castro said during a Palace press conference.
"The DSWD, as of now, April 8, said that its field offices in Western and Central Visayas are closely coordinating with the affected local government units and are still providing provisions or family food packs and non-food items to our countrymen who are affected," she added.
The Palace official said the government is also assessing the situation and would provide necessary resources to affected LGUs.
The municipal government of La Castellana, Negros Occidental has already requested for additional funding to support response efforts for those affected by Kanlaon, Castro said.

"If necessary, this will be carefully reviewed—what the LGUs need—and assistance will be provided immediately," Castro said.
Kanlaon erupted early morning on Tuesday, producing a "voluminous, bent plume" about 4,000 meters high, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said Kanlaon Volcano remains under alert level 3, indicating magmatic unrest.
This is the volcano's third eruption, with the first on June 3, 2024 and the second on Dec. 9, 2024.
