MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has appealed to the public to await the results of the investigations on the multibillion-peso flood control controversy with patience, saying investigators are being thorough in their job.
In a statement released Friday night, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure have already submitted their findings regarding the anomalous flood control projects.
She said cases have been recommended for filing and are now with the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice.
Castro issued the statement after Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) spokesman Edwil Zabala appeared on television on Friday to renew calls for accountability, alleging that the testimonies of 18 former military personnel, who surfaced during a Feb. 24 press conference, may have proven massive cash delivery scheme involving ranking officials.
The INC, which endorsed Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte during the May 2022 elections, said it has been waiting for the government to address the widespread corruption since it held a rally for transparency, accountability, justice and peace in November last year.
For its part, the Senate Blue Ribbon committee said it will rely strictly on evidence regarding the alleged multi-billion-peso cash delivery scheme involving former military personnel.
“As chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, I haven’t changed my position about being led by evidence guided only by the prudent and logical way of treating any information that comes to my attention – evaluate and validate the credibility and reliability of both the source as well as the information itself before taking action,” Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson said yesterday.
