PAGASA said that from 43 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the heat index in Cuyo soared to 51 degrees, the maximum temperature for danger-level heat index.

MANILA, Philippines —  The town of Cuyo in Palawan yesterday experienced the highest heat index so far this year with 51 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said that from 43 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the heat index in Cuyo soared to 51 degrees, the maximum temperature for danger-level heat index.

A danger-level heat index ranges from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA said exposure to danger-level heat index with continuous activity may result in heat exhaustion or stroke.

Aparri, Cagayan and Cavite City posted a heat index of 48 degrees Celsius followed by Dagupan in Pangasinan with 47 degrees Celsius.

The public has been advised to drink plenty of water, avoid going outside particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and use sunscreen.

Around 56 areas posted danger-level heat index yesterday, PAGASA said.

Among these areas are Pili in Camarines Sur and Guiuan in Eastern Samar, which posted 46 degrees Celsius followed by Baler in Aurora, San Ildefonso in Bulacan, Alabat in Quezon, Dumangas in Iloilo, Mactan International Airport in Cebu and Borongan in Eastern Samar with 45 degrees Celsius.

A heat index of 44 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City while the Science Garden in Quezon City posted 42 degrees Celsius.
