BACOLOD CITY — Organizers of this year's weeklong Panaad sa Negros festival reported that sales reached P16,600,630.70, about 13.6 percent or P2.6 million lower compared to last year's edition, which earned P19,250,439.50.
The 29th edition of Panaad sa Negros Festival ended on March 30.
The bulk of sales at the Panaad Park and Stadium originated from the different pavilions of various local government units pegged at P9,822,315.50, followed by income from the San Miguel Corp. area (concessionaires) at P3,466,350; Food Alley (concessionaires) at P1,678,213; OPA (Organic Village) at P961,087; Veterinary at P420,922; Garden (covered court) at P212,725; and P39,018 income for TLDC Trade Fair (Bamboo).
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson attributed the drop in sales this year to the ongoing classes and the start of the campaign of local candidates on March 28.
Last year, the festival was done from April 15 to 21.

However, there were huge crowds during the weekend, Lacson said.
Lawyer Rayfrando Diaz II, provincial administrator, said sometimes not all sales are declared by some.
The festival was successful in terms of the participation of the local government units in the festival events, and the record number of people at the Panaad, Diaz said.
The LGU performances at the Panaad also greatly improved.
"It was a breakthrough in quality and quantity," Diaz concluded.
