BACOLOD CITY , Philippines —Travelers and residents are complaining about what they described as an exorbitant increase in the parking rate at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport (BSIA) in Negros Occidental.

The Sangguniang Panglungsod of Bacolod is seeking the intervention of Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on the issue, noting that from P200, the rate for overnight parking was increased to P600.

A dialogue among members of the city council, representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and other concerned government agencies is being pushed to address the issue.

Councilor Homer Bais said there is no reason to increase the rate as no improvement has been made at the parking area of the airport.

The parking rate was increased from P8 to P25 per hour, which took effect in January.

Complainants said that the parking fee at the airport is higher than in a shopping mall, which is more secure with closed-circuit television cameras and security guards.

Bais said car owners are charged only P20 for whole day parking in malls.

In response to the complaints, John William Fuerte, manager of the BSIA, said the increase in the airport parking fee was approved in April 2025, and is being implemented in all CAAP-operated airports nationwide.
