PBA Finals: Scottie Thompson deflects praise after triple-double

MANILA, Philippines—In typical Scottie Thompson fashion, the Barangay Ginebra star brushed aside his own performance and instead credited his teammates after the Gin Kings’ Game 3 win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

Thompson did a little bit of everything in Ginebra’s 116-102 win over TNT at Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday to help the Gin Kings take a 2-1 series lead.

“For our team, it’s never about individuals,” Thompson told reporters.

“Whoever scores, whoever plays well, we feed off of them and that’s the good thing about our team. It’s all about team effort.”

Thompson tallied a triple-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the Gin Kings inched two wins closer to their first PBA title since 2023.

The former MVP was quick to highlight the performance of Stephen Holt, who sparked the Gin Kings’ strong start.

“Holt got back in his rhythm so the first was crucial. As a team, we need everyone to step up,” he said of Holt, who scored 15 of his 23 points in the first quarter.

Ginebra looks to capture the important 3-1 series lead on Wednesday in Game 4 at the same venue in Pasay.
