MANILA, Philippines–June Mar Fajardo saw firsthand why many believe Geo Chiu has a bright future in the PBA.
Facing each other in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, the reigning MVP came away impressed with the 2025 top overall pick despite San Miguel Beermen’s 126-110 win over Terrafirma Dyip.
“That kid has such a bright future,” Fajardo said in Filipino. “He just has to stay healthy because that’s the problem for us big men.”
“He has to be healthy because he plays well. He just needs more touches.”
Fajardo, however, also showed Chiu what it takes to dominate in the pros, finishing with 30 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Beermen.
The Ateneo product, though, was no pushover as he tallied a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds.
In the battle of big men, Fajardo helped hand the Dyip a season-ending loss as Terrafirma dropped to 4-7.
San Miguel, meanwhile, improved to 6-5 to join the four-way tie for fifth place.
