PBA: San Miguel crushes Macau by 52, sets new halftime record

MANILA, Philippines— There was barely any thrill in San Miguel Beer’s latest conquest in the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup as it annihilated Macau, 131-79, at Ynares Sports Center in Montalban on Saturday.

Even when the game was put on hold late in the first quarter, the Beermen never lost their fire as they improved to 6-2 in Group A.

“With us, we’re aware that when we lead, we relax. That became a lesson to us so tonight, even when we were up big, we kept the same intensity until the end,” Don Trollano said in Filipino after shooting for 17 points.

“The third group really practiced hard as well so we were confident that even if we put them in, they’ll maintain our lead.”

San Miguel got off to a hot start in the opening period before being doused momentarily by heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon. Much like the previous night at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, the action was halted because of roof leakage at the Ynares complex.

The game resumed at 8:31 pm with the Beermen holding a 35-20 advantage with 1:06 left in the quarter.

The short intermission did little to dampen San Miguel’s momentum as it set a new league record for the biggest halftime lead at 80-37.

In the end, the Beermen fell four points short of tying the league’s biggest winning margin, a 56-point victory by Rain or Shine over Blackwater last conference.

George King played only 10 minutes but still finished with 19 points for the Beermen. Jericho Cruz and Jeron Teng finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Marcio Lassiter and JM Calma had 12 each.

The Giant Pandas played without Jenning Leung and import De’Vondre Perry as they crashed to a 2-6 card. Kobey Lam and Damian Chong Qui scored 24 and 23 in the defeat.
