MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed two vessels on Wednesday, December 24, to transport hundreds of passengers stranded at Lucena Port and Romblon.
In a statement, the PCG said it deployed two of its multi-role vessels at the Port of Lucena in Quezon, bound for San Agustin, Romblon, and vice versa.
According to the PCG, it deployed BRP Suluan, which departed Lucena at approximately 6 a.m., carrying 75 passengers who were unable to secure tickets on commercial lines.
It also deployed BRP Bagacay, which ferried passengers from Quezon to Romblon and carried 89 passengers, according to the PCG.
According to Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog commander, the operation is proceeding according to strict maritime security and safety standards.
“This initiative underscores the PCG’s dual role as a maritime safety agency and a humanitarian force, reaffirming our commitment to compassion, unity, and service, especially during critical times, while making the Christmas season meaningful for families across island communities,” Tuvilla said.
