PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – A medical and dental mission was held at the Puerto Princesa City Jail on Thursday to enhance the well-being of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
The outreach program, dubbed as "Tarabidan sa Kalusugan" (Tara sa Barangay, Ilapit at Dalhin Serbisyong Pangkalusugan), was organized by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in collaboration with the City Health Office (CHO).
The inmates and detainees availed of free medical consultations, medications and laboratory tests, including urinalysis, fasting blood sugar, and cholesterol screening.
The CHO also addressed the dental needs by conducting dental consultations and tooth extractions using the Department of Health (DOH) Dental Health Bus. All resources, including medicines and dental supplies, were provided by the CHO.
"Sa mga health providers at sa BJMP, taos-puso po ang aming pasasalamat. Dahil sa inyong malasakit at dedikasyon, kami po ay muling nabigyan ng pag-asa at lakas (To the health providers and the BJMP, we express our sincere gratitude. Because of your concern and dedication, we have been given hope and strength again)," Ana, 38, a female PDL, said.

BJMP Mimaropa Regional Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said the collaborative effort underscores their commitment to the health and rehabilitation of PDL, "aligning with its broader mandate to provide comprehensive health services, including medical assessments, health education and counseling, to all individuals under its custody."
Anglo said the outreach program also reflects the BJMP's dedication to fostering partnerships with local government units to ensure the holistic development and rehabilitation of PDL, preparing them for reintegration into society upon their release.
