MANILA, Philippines–The Philippine women’s baseball team absorbed an 8-2 loss to group host Chinese-Taipei in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup on Thursday in Tainan, Taiwan.

Losing pitcher Jojielyn Lim was rocked with four runs in the first inning that made it a tough late morning outing for the Filipina batters at Aspac Secondary Field.

Lim was tagged for three earned runs in 1 2/3 innings as the Philippines dropped to an even 2-2 record going into its crucial final match in Group B against Venezuela.

Coach Saki Bacarisas’ squad was facing Venezuela as of posting time.

The Philippines got itself in contention for a spot in next year’s World Cup Finals in Rockford, Illinois after bouncing back from losing to defending champion Japan in the opener with twin victories on Wednesday.

The Filipinas beat Cuba, 6-0, and Great Britain, 6-2, to climb into the top three spots in the Tainan Group.

Chia-Yu Lin broke the ice with two outs in the bottom of the first with a two-run double into left field.

Lin would later score for Chinese-Taipei after second baseman Veronica Velasco dropped a routine flyball that would have ended the inning. Yu-Chuan Tu made it 4-0 with a double to deep left field, sending home Jia-Jhen Cheng.
