The Philippine rowing team made heads turn at the International 66th Ratzeburg Rowing Regatta by plucking one silver and one bronze medal in Germany over the weekend.Zuriel Sumintac and Edgard Ilas, bronze medalists in the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, clocked 7 minutes and 2.41 seconds to capture the silver medal in the lightweight men’s pairs that saw local bets Lukas and Julian Grimm bagging the gold in 7:01.38.Another German pair in Hagen Friedrich Weyland and Herge Miro Schuppenhauer settled for the bronze with 7:03.92.Sumintac and Ilac were actually trailing the Grimm pair by less than a second in the first 1000 meters before losing steam in the next 500m as the Germans increased their lead by two seconds.The Filipino duo tried to push their way to the top in the final 500m, but the Germans were too hot to handle.Kristine Paraon and Feiza Lenton, for their parts, snared the bronze medal in the women’s double sculls with a time of 7:35.75, finishing behind eventual gold medalists Lanea Ruter and Anna Scheifer (7:10.26), and silver winners Miya Becker and Sina Stumpf (7:23.08).Other Filipinos who also competed were Olympian Cris Nievarez, Van Maxilom, Rynjie Peñaredondo.
