COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Local executives in southern regions supporting the activities of the 10th Infantry Division were elated with its having received citation streamers for good performance during the commemoration on Thursday, March 19, of the 129th anniversary of the Philippine Army in Fort Andres Bonifacio in Taguig City.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., the chief of staff of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. and the commander of the Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, were among the key dignitaries present in the event.

Local executives in cities and provinces in Regions 10, 11 and 13, where there are units under the Army’s 10 th ID, were quoted in radio reports on Saturday as saying that they are happy with the division’s having been awarded then by the national headquarters of the Philippine Army with a Kahusayan streamer for excellence in performance and mission achievements.  

The 10th Station Hospital, which is under the 10th ID, also received during the symbolic activity at Fort Andres Bonifacio, a Likha streamer from the Philippine Army’s commanding general for its extensive military healthcare services. The hospital is inside Camp Manuel Yan Sr. in Mawab town in Davao de Oro, where the 10th ID’s headquarters is located.

Major Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th ID, said credit for the awards the division received from the Philippine Army’s top leadership should go to all of their units and civilian employees in their headquarters, who worked together to achieve their peace and security and public service goals.

He said they are also thankful to municipal, city and provincial officials in the regions where they have units for supporting the 10th ID’s humanitarian initiatives and its effort of securing the surrender of remnants of the New People’s Army via backchannel dialogues.

Units of the 10 th ID, local executives and agencies of the national government had together reintegrated to mainstream society in the past five years more than a thousand NPAs from across Regions 10, 11 and 13 after they pledged allegiance to the government, in batches, during the period.
