MANILA, Philippines — The government is encouraging Chinese electric vehicle (EV) firms to set up manufacturing operations in the Philippines given the growing electrified vehicle market.

Speaking at the China International New Energy Vehicle Technology, Parts and Services Exhibition 2026 held in Beijing, Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime FlorCruz pitched the Philippines as an ideal partner and investment destination for Chinese EV companies.

“I invite Chinese EV companies to invest, manufacture, partner and innovate in the Philippines,” he said.

Sales of electrified vehicles continue to accelerate in the Philippines as consumers opt for cars that help them reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions.

Aside from the growing demand for electrified vehicles, there are also opportunities for cooperation between China and the Philippines in terms of vehicle assembly, battery technologies, EV components and related supply-chain industries.

Data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association showed that sales of electrified vehicles surged by 67 percent to 5,701 units from January to February from 3,416 units in the same period last year.

FlorCruz cited the Philippines’ skilled, English-proficient workforce, competitive operating costs and the growing industrial zones that are ready to host Chinese EV companies.

In addition, he said the government is offering support to investors in the form of tax incentives, duty-free imports and streamlined investment policies and rules.

“Our aim is to create an ecosystem conducive to partnerships and collaborations, so find your right partners and let us prosper together in the Philippines,” he said.

The Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Beijing also organized the Philippines-China Business Cooperation Conference, which was attended by Chinese companies involved in EV manufacturing, batteries and related technologies.

Philippine Embassy’s Economic and Trade Counsellor Glenn Peñaranda underscored the favorable conditions for Chinese firms to participate in EV manufacturing and supply chains in the Philippines, given growing market demand and government support.

As the shift to cleaner mobility accelerates, he said the Philippines continues to position itself as a promising partner for Chinese companies seeking to expand in Southeast Asia’s electric mobility market.
