MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) has teamed up with its Singaporean counterpart to create fresh investment activities and boost trading among Southeast Asians.

The PSE yesterday said it has signed a memorandum of collaboration with Singapore Exchange Ltd. (SGX Group) to build up investment opportunities between the Philippines and Singapore.

Signed on the sidelines of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum, the collaboration aims to develop new ways for issuers to access capital from both economies.

Moreover, the collaboration seeks to boost intra-region trading by coming up with new products. The partnership will also look into raising exchange traded funds built around investment themes common to both the Philippines and Singapore.

The exchanges will also evaluate how they can enhance derivatives, or contracts between parties that fluctuate values based on the price of one or more assets. They also committed to work with their respective participants to support other initiatives.

Further, the collaboration requires the PSE and SGX Group to reach out to their co-regulators to ease bureaucratic and operational considerations.

The memorandum marks the most comprehensive tie-up between the PSE and SGX Group, and is built on the successive ASEAN chairmanship of their respective governments.

The Philippines chairs the meetings and summits of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations this year, while Singapore will assume leadership in 2027.

The exchanges said they aim to encourage more partnerships among capital markets in Southeast Asia.

PSE president and CEO Ramon Monzon said the local stock exchange is eager to expand trading opportunities for both Filipinos and Singaporeans. He hopes the collaboration also contributes to deepening the PSE’s liquidity, as it struggles to find a clear catalyst for growth.

“This collaboration with SGX Group marks a significant step toward strengthening connectivity between the Philippine and Singapore capital markets and expanding opportunities for both our issuers and investors,” Monzon said.

SGX Group CEO Loh Boon Chye said companies could gain from the collaboration, as it would promote ease of access to capital and investments between the economies.
