MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines and Singapore agreed yesterday to strengthen their collaboration in the areas of renewable energy, sustainability, health care and digitalization.

President Marcos met with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at Malacañang.

“The robust ties between the Philippines and Singapore and the steadfast camaraderie between Filipinos and Singaporeans are strong and remain strong,” Marcos said in a joint statement.

Wong, for his part, said the Philippines-Singapore relations have never been better.

“It is a partnership that has been carefully nurtured over the decades by successive generations of leaders and officials” Wong said.

During their bilateral meeting, the two leaders discussed priority areas, which Marcos said “yield tangible benefits for the Philippines and for Singapore, both immediate and in the longer term.”

Marcos invited Singaporean companies to increase investment in renewable energy in the Philippines.

According to Wong, the two countries agreed to accelerate efforts to achieve the Association of Southeast Asian Nations power grid.

To meet their respective climate goals, the two nations are also working on the finalization of a memorandum of understanding on Carbon Credits Collaboration.

Additionally, Marcos said the Philippines is looking forward to the conclusion of a bilateral agreement with Singapore on health cooperation.

Wong said Singapore’s Ministry of Health is exploring ways to support Filipino health care workers to upskill and eventually reintegrate into the Philippine health care system.

During their meeting, Marcos also reaffirmed the country’s continued commitment to rules-based international order to achieve peace and stability in the West Philippine Sea and South China Sea.
